Public Offerings at Emory

CBCT® is offered at Emory University in several locations and for a number of different Emory organizations.  Whether you are a member of the general public, a current student or faculty member, or a healthcare practitioner at Emory Healthcare, we hope you can find an opportunity to learn CBCT® at a time that works for you.  (Courses listed here are not for academic credit.  Note that CBCT® for academic credit is available for Emory students through the Registrar’s office.)

Eight-Week CBCT® Foundation Course

Our next Eight-Week course will be held on Wednesday evenings, 7pm-9pm EDT, on September 2 – October 28, 2020.

The course will be taught by Prof. Lobsang Tenzin Negi, Executive Director of the CCSCBE.  

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Eight-Week Foundation Course will be held online via the Zoom meeting platform.  Please confirm that your computer or phone is compatible with this platform and that you will have dependable internet service on the days of the course. 

The Zoom meeting link and instructions will be sent to registrants during the week before the course begins.

Detailed Information

The cost of the Eight-Week CBCT® Foundation Course is $395 for the general public; full-time students (age 18+) and full-time Emory employees receive a $100 discount for a rate of $295; and the discounted rate for full-time Emory students and individuals age 65 and over is $195.  Proof of current full-time enrollment in a degree-granting institution is required to receive the student rates.

During these challenging times, we would like to make CBCT® available to those who feel that they would benefit from the course, regardless of financial status.  If you require financial assistance to attend CBCT® but do not fit the categories above for discounts, please send a brief note explaining the situation and the amount of discount that would be required for you to enroll. Though we cannot guarantee support to all, all requests will be considered and awards will be announced two weeks prior to the class start date.

Three-Day Weekend Intensive CBCT® Foundation Course

Detailed Information

Along with the weekly version that allows for meditation practice at home between sessions, we also offer an intensive version of the Foundation Course over three full days that covers the same material and also allows additional time for meditation.  This course is tailored to individuals interested in CBCT® who are not able to attend the Eight-Week version and who are comfortable with the intensive, retreat-style format.  While no prior meditation background is required, many who choose this immersive schedule have prior contemplative experience and are comfortable with long periods of focus.

The Eight-Week and Three-Day Weekend Intensive CBCT Foundation Courses are co-sponsored by the Emory University School of Medicine and the Center for Contemplative Science & Compassion-Based Ethics at Emory University.  The Emory University School of Medicine is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists.  The Emory University School of Medicine maintains responsibility for this program and its content.

Full attendance is required to receive CE credit. 

The Eight-Week course will qualify for 16 continuing education credits.  It is not possible to receive partial credit for attending a portion of the course.

Accuracy and Utility:  All materials presented will be grounded in peer-reviewed scholarship, and when possible, based on empirical data.  CBCT® is taught via constructivist pedagogy that puts the process of learning into the hands of the learner as much as possible.  Thereby, supporting adult learners in a developmentally appropriate manner. 

Both the Eight-Week and Three-Day Weekend Intensive CBCT® Foundation Courses are introductory level programing, as defined by the APA.

Upon receipt of the $50 processing fee and successful completion of the course, a certificate certifying the award of APA CE credits will be issued to the individual.


CBCT® 2-Day Fall Retreat - ONLINE

Dr. Lobsang Tenzin Negi will lead a fall retreat online via Zoom.  Open to anyone who has completed the CBCT® course.  Please join us for this opportunity to refresh and deepen your knowledge and practice.

Saturday, October 24 – Sunday, October 25, 2020

9:00am-5:30pm EDT (includes two short breaks and one long lunch break)

Cost:  $150 per person

Prerequisite:  Completion of a CBCT® course.  Also, you will need to have access to the Zoom videoconference platform on a computer. 

The Zoom meeting link and instructions will be sent to registrants during the week before the retreat begins.

Continuing Education Units (CEUs)

Those who complete any CBCT Foundation Course or CNE or CME course are entitled to apply for continuing education credits (CEUs, CNE credits or CME credits).  CBCT continuing education credits have been approved in the past for licensed counselors as well as other groups; however, we strongly encourage you to confirm acceptance of the credits with your professional organization’s governing body before enrolling. Continuing education credits require attendance at 8O% of all classes. Upon receipt of the $50 processing fee and successful completion of the course, a letter certifying the award of CEUs will be issued to the individual. For CNE credits and CME credits, please contact us in advance of the course you wish to take.
